If you didn’t already know, I live on the papakainga at Matauri and have done so for the last 37 years. I’m a mum to 3 young men and karani to 7 mokopuna.
I was a primary advocate and driver behind the purchase of the 3 rental whare, beside Te Tau o Taki, from Housing New Zealand, successfully applied for $500k+ from the provincial growth fund to upgrade the water infrastructure to the holiday park, assisted in the negotiation of the new lease of the holiday park with GVA, application for funding ($5million) and being part of the project control group for the establishment of 8 new rental whare for whanau, in Roto (to name some of the tasks I’ve been involved in over the last 6 or so years).
I have worked in banks, accounting firms and an Aboriginal Health provider – amongst other vocations. I have a university education in business to Masters level and trained to be an RMA commissioner.
I currently work in the Iwi development space at an executive level and liaise/hui frequently with 12 other Taitokerau Iwi executives and chairs, FNDC, NRC, Regional Development initiatives and Inter Government sector agencies to ensure Iwi/hapu/maori are informed and provided with the resources and information and participate in decision-making processes that deal with multiple issues that have the potential or to impact us living in Taitokerau, and nationally – positively and negatively.
I have very good connections and access to a range of information and opportunities that MXI has benefited from in the past and will continue to benefit from in the future. I’m also 3 years into research & development of a native oyster project – looking at commercialisation, and customary provision.

Ko Tania ahau
It is a privilege for me to serve on the Committee of Management to give back to my people and honour my tūpuna. Having completed my schooling years in Tauranga Moana, I went on to complete a commerce degree at Massey University in Palmerston North majoring in Human Resource Management.
I’ve gained extensive experience working across several industries from public sector to small business and large corporate organisations and now with the support of my husband have my own pākihi offering specialist capability in programme, project, change management, business analysis, strategy and governance to organisations navigating change.
Life beyond work involves caring for my whānau alongside my wonderful husband Dipak. We have three beautiful children, which means if I’m not helping with homework, or driving them to activities, I’m fervently supporting from the sideline of a sports field. If fine weather and spare time manage to collide you can almost guarantee, I’ll either be out walking or fishing as a way of self-care and fine tuning my ‘hunter gatherer’ skills. I look forward to continuing to tautoko the various kaupapa that uplift our hapū through Matauri X.
Mauri ora!
